Show Pony Live: The Savannah Bananas Just Exposed College Sports

Bananas owner Jesse Cole is putting fans first — and proving how broken the current system really is

The Savannah Bannanas just sold out Kyle Field. 102,000 strong.

Let that sit for a second.

A traveling, entertainment-first baseball team packed one of the biggest stadiums in college football — not with tradition, not with rivalry, not with TV contracts…

…but with fun.

And that’s where today’s episode of Show Pony Live! begins.

Because what is being done isn’t just clever marketing — it’s a complete rethinking of how sports should operate.

Fans first. Always.

Not media rights deals.
Not conference realignment.
Not power struggles.

Fans.

And honestly? It makes the current model of college sports look pathetic.

The Case for Jesse Cole as Commissioner

I make the argument on today’s show that Jesse Cole should be the next commissioner of college sports.

Not a former athletic director.
Not a conference insider.
Not another suit.

Someone who understands experience.

Because right now, college sports is drifting further away from the people who actually matter — the fans in the stands and the audience at home.

Cole gets it.

He’s not protecting a system.
He’s building something people actually want to be part of.

And that’s the difference.

Is Digital Media Hurting the Art of Broadcasting?

This ties directly into something I wrote yesterday on ShowPonyMedia.com — and something I expand on in today’s episode.

We’re producing more content than ever.

But are we producing better content?

There’s a difference between:

  • Content creation

  • And broadcasting

One is volume-driven.
The other is craft-driven.

The reps.
The prep.
The discipline.
The ability to communicate clearly, entertain, and inform — all at once.

That’s the art.

And too often right now, it’s getting lost.

Full Ride Reaction: John Fields & NCAA Golf’s Future

We also react to my conversation earlier today on Full Ride on with Texas golf coach, John Fields.

One of the more interesting ideas on the table:

The exploring a destination championship model for college golf — potentially out near San Diego.

It’s a fascinating concept.

Done right, it could elevate the sport, create a true event atmosphere, and give fans something to rally around.

We break it all down in the episode.

React to today’s episode in the comment section. Should college sports be run with a more fan-first model?
