I’m not a Clemson fan. But in a college football world that increasingly feels transactional, I find myself rooting for the guy who still believes it can be something more.
Wow Poney and I thought radio was your first calling. You are a better journalist! I am not a huge Dabo fan. But he is a player coach and seems to be a good guy. I will root for him like you this year and against Lane that’s easy. A great article Chris!
Great stuff Chris! I think part of, if not the main, problem for Dabo, is his defiance about where college football is. He may be softening up to that, and we will be able to tell that some this year after his off season acquisitions. Also, in this world it feels like people prefer to cheer for the quintessential “bad guy” to win more-so than not, so Dabo is also on the wrong side of society’s fatigue meter right now. Indiana winning it last year raised the level of desire in him I bet, as it did with most coaches. He had probably also gotten a little complacent. Hard not to with all the accomplishments from the past he keeps bringing up. He no doubt brought Clemson into the national conversation in a yearly basis, and they do need to be thankful for that, however, thankful isn’t a forever frame of mind in the world of college football. It probably lasts about 5-7 years. He needs to win this year. Pretty bad.
